Attila Richard Lukacs: where are the lonely lovers and their wildish dreams

October 11, 2025 – December 13, 2025

where are the lonely lovers and their wildish dreams presents new paintings by Lukacs completed within the last year that derive inspiration from a range of sources including Polaroids, images found on Instagram, poetry, as well as painted from the subconscious. While the artist refers to the works as portraits—the subject for which he is best known but has not dedicated a show to in more than 20 years—the works demonstrate Lukacs’ dexterity with the medium ranging from highly abstracted to figurative, all evidencing the artists’ hand in his signature bold, decisive application of paint. These portraits pay homage to their “sitters”, both real and imagined, as both loving, tender portraits and mourning those lost. While internationally renowned for his monumental works that recall grand history painting, the works presented in where are the lonely lovers and their wildish dreams are deliberately smaller in scale to invite a closer, more intimate viewing experience.
